KERR, John Williamson
Passed away gently at his home on Saturday, February 21, 2004. Jack was
an active member of the Canadian electrical industry holding senior
positions with Canada Wire and Cable, Triangle Conduit and Cable and
General Cable, Past President of the Canadian Electrical Manufacturers
Association, awarded Electrical Man of the Year by the Canadian
Manufacturers' Representatives Association, and most recently honoured
by the Electrofederation of Canada. Following his dedicated electrical
career he founded Kerrwil Publications Limited in May 1964 to publish
Electrical'Jack' D.F.C. (429 Bomber Squadron R.C.A.F.) Business Magazine for the electrical marketplace. He led the firm to encompass other industries including plastics, automation, computer, and special family interests including Canadian Yachting. In his second career Jack was always an enthusiastic member of the electrical industry he served first and published second. An avid golfer, Jack was a senior member of the Toronto Golf Club. Jack Kerr was a visionary in the Canadian electrical publishing industry and an inspiration to many. He had style and polish and a great sense of humour. In the five years that I worked for him (1981-86), I learned to admire him greatly and I never forgot the chance that he took with me, when I had little experience and a lot of ambition. In fact, Jack invested a lot of his time teaching the electrical industry to his many editors over the years, who benefited greatly from his experience. The Canadian electrical industry will forever owe a debt for his vision and commitment that he so generously gave. A Memorial Service honouring Jack's life will be held in Toronto in May 2004, which will mark the 40th Anniversary of Kerrwil Publications. -- Randy Hurst, Publisher Electricity Today Page 3, Issue 1, Volume 16, 2004 http://www.electricity-today.com/download/issue1_2004.pdf |
