Walter Gordon Johnston

Dubbed "Florence Nightingale" since the course (and I do mean c.o.U.r.s.e) party in the Hotel Lond, Gordy ("let ME look after Mac") Johnston, is a native of Ottawa and celebrated his twentieth birthday July 23 last.  Graduating from Lisgar Collegiate Institute in his native city, Gordy played on his school football, hockey and basketball teams, the latter being the E.O.S.S.A. champs in '39.  Employed as a bright light in the Department of Munitions & Supply, Ottawa, Gordy was helping to feed the cannons before the R.C.A.F., started to feed him when he landed in the No.1 Manning Depot on July 22.
