Our worthy class senior was born
in Windsor in May, 1916, and signs his name O. Ralph Blackmore...just
as if the "O" represented nothing at all -- but you just can't hope to
hide a name like "Oscar." After leaving Assumption College,
Blackie took his B.A. degree in 1940 at the University of Western
Ontario, and from there went to the Glode & Mail as a budding
Horace Greeley. Incidentally, Blackie was Canadian
Intercollegiate Boxing Champ in 1939-40, and it was only this that
saved him from the showers one evening when he dragged the whole class
away from their fascinating study of D.R. to see a certain film called
Shanghai Gesture --- "class no likee chinee New Year." As a
navigator, Blackie is a better cartoonist -- this gift only being
equalled by his ability to shoot naturals at flight parties -- oh,
shades of $57! Blackie enlisted in Toronto in June, 1941, and was
married just before coming to A.O.S. -- which perhaps explains a lot --
how would you like to study DR on your honeymoon? read his obituary. |
